Adlow (Elijah) is born in the West End.

August 15, 1896

The son of Eastern European immigrants Nathan and Bessie Adlow, Elijah Adlow grows up in Roxbury, graduates from English High School, Harvard College, and Harvard Law School, and serves in the U.S. Navy in World War I. He serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1921-1926) and on the Boston Municipal Court (1928-73), where he is named chief justice in 1954. Adlow retires in 1973, and goes on to write several books. Adlow dies on November 4, 1982.
